Shanghai Sites and Sounds #1

I was lucky enough to participate in the first full marathon to take place in Shanghai since before the covid pandemic period. This really was a trip down memory lane as I ran passed some iconic streets and places I hadn't visited since different stages of my life. Thankfully, I was taking it leisurely enough to capture some of the moments on camera.

2024 Shanghai Marathon

Sunday, 26th November, 2024 (5:00-11:00am)

I was lucky enough to participate in the first full marathon to take place in Shanghai since before the covid pandemic period. I had first observed the marathon back in 2019 passing by my apartment on Huaihai Lu and it inspired me to take up running as a regular hobby at the time. That event in 2019 also influenced my perception of Shanghai as a city that could also be about people, and not merely cars. So having gotten a lucky ticket to the event this year, also my first ever marathon, I was happy to be able to capture some of the experience and make this video to share with others. The first half of the route traverses some of Shanghai's most famous landmarks and commercial streets. The second half of the race mostly covers the Huangpu Riverfront which has been utterly transformed from its industrial past to a become an amazing collection of waterfront parks with dedicated running and cycle tracks running continuously along its length. We were so lucky with the weather on the day of this race too.
